Index Fields and Related Documents help you understand and organize documents in the Document Viewer. Use Index Fields to view or update document information, and use Related Documents to navigate between connected records.
Note: The tools you have available in the Document Viewer may vary. Please check with your organization administrator if you are missing something that you expected to see. If your organization wants to use advanced digital signatures, please contact your client success manager.
Filling in index fields
Index Fields are user-defined fields that store key information about a document, such as dates, IDs, statuses, or other metadata. Index field values are searchable and can be used to support workflows and business rules.
From the top menu, click Index Fields.
In the right panel, fill in values for each index field.

Relating documents
Related Documents connect documents through Parent, Child, or Related (Peer) relationships. These relationships help organize records, provide additional context, and make it easier to navigate between associated documents.
From the top menu, click Documents.
In the right panel, view the Related Documents list.
Click on a related document to open it in the Document Viewer.

FAQ
Can I choose which tab is shown by default in the right panel, when I open the Document Viewer?
The right panel can be configured to open to a specific tab by default, or to be hidden, when the Document Viewer opens. To request a change, please contact Technical Support.
Can I relate a document to another from the Related Documents list, in the Document Viewer?
No, the Related Documents list, in the Document Viewer, is read-only. An administrator may create or modify document relationships in the Document Library.
Can I create a new index field, for the Index Fields panel, in the Document Viewer?
No, you cannot create a new index field, in the Document Viewer; instead, your objective in the Document Viewer is to view or fill in values for index fields which are already set up. An administrator may create or modify index fields, in the Document Library.
Why can't I edit some index fields?
Some index fields may be configured as read-only, automatically populated by the system, or restricted based on your permissions. Contact your organization administrator if you believe you should be able to update a field.
What happens if I update an index field value?
When you save your changes, the updated value is stored with the document and may affect searches, reports, workflows, or other business processes that use that field.
Why don't I see any related documents?
Not all documents have relationships configured. If no document relationships have been established, the Related Documents list may be empty.
If I open a related document, will my changes to the current document be saved?
No. Be sure to save any changes before opening another document. Unsaved changes may be lost when you navigate away from the current document.
Can I remove a document from the Related Documents list in the Document Viewer?
No. Document relationships can only be created, modified, or removed by an administrator in the Document Library.
What should I do if a related document is missing?
If you expect a document relationship that is not displayed, contact your organization administrator. The relationship may not have been configured, or you may not have permission to access the related document.
