Article Summary

Introduction

The VisualVault Connect Windows download application is intended for downloading all files in a single VisualVault Document Library Folder with the option to include all sub Folders and sub Folder Documents.  Files are downloaded to a location on supported Windows devices (see System Requirements). Future versions of VisualVault Connect will include file synchronization for Windows Explorer in addition to the Download capability.

How to Download and Install

Within the VisualVault Document Library screen, navigate to any Folder and then use the Folder menu icon (1) to display a list of actions, then (2) select the Download Client App menu item which will download the Windows installer package to your client device.

If the Download menu options shown below are not visible, please email support@visualvault.com and request the Download Application be enabled.  Please include the full Web browser URL in your email to the support team.

When the download finishes, open the installer executable and follow the prompts on each step of the installation process.  You will need administrator privileges on your Windows client device to complete the installation.

Get file size Estimate prior to Download

When the VisualVault Connect Windows download application installation is completed, navigate to the Document Library Folder you wish to download files from and select the Folder Properties tab (1).  Look at the "File counts and sizes" information (2) to determine if your Windows client device has sufficient disk space available to download all the files in the selected Folder or sub Folders.  If you plan to download files for all sub Folders, click the button (3) to display the total file count and size for all sub Folders.

Downloading Files

To begin downloading files, navigate to the Document Library Folder, use the Folder menu icon (1) to display a list of actions, then (2) select one of the Download menu options (this Folder's Files or Folder and Subfolder Files).

First time using the download application

The first time you use the download application two additional steps are required:

  1. A window will display asking for permission to open the VVConnect download application.  Select the option to (1) "Always allow" then (2) click the "Open VVConnect" button.
  2. After clicking the "Open VVConnect" button, another window will display asking you where to save the files on your Windows client device.

When prompted where to save files on your Windows client device, select a location that has sufficient disk space available for the files you are downloading.  We recommend keeping 20% of your available device storage space free for best performance.  Browse or type in a Windows Folder path (1) then click the Save button (2).

Monitoring download progress

The file downloads will begin automatically and display a download progress window.  You can hide the progress window by clicking the Hide button.

To display the Download Status window when hidden.

Locate the VisualVault Connect icon in the Windows device System Tray (1).  The System Tray is also known as the Notification Area and is located on the right-side of the Windows Taskbar.  If necessary, click the Up Arrow icon in the Windows System Tray (1) to display more icons.

Right click on the VisualVault Connect icon (2) and select the "Show Download Status" option.

Cancelling a download process

You may cancel a download at any time.  The cancel action (1) is not immediate because the application must wait for any files currently being streamed to the client device to complete.  Please wait for the "Download Status" (2) to display "Cancelled" before attempting another download.  You may safely restart a download by initiating a new download for the same Document Library Folder.  Any files previously downloaded will be skipped if the file size and last modified date have not changed.

Troubleshooting

Authentication Error Message

If the download status window displays an Authentication Error message when you start a download, refresh the VisualVault Document Library web browser screen and start the download again.

Download does not start or progress is stalled

If the dowload does not start or the download progress seems to be "stalled" for several minutes, force the application's user interface to restart.

Locate the VisualVault Connect icon in the Windows device System Tray (1).  The System Tray is also known as the Notification Area and is located on the right-side of the Windows Taskbar.  If necessary, click the Up Arrow icon in the Windows System Tray (1) to display more icons.

Right click on the VisualVault Connect icon (2) and select the "Close" option to force the application's user interface to be restarted.   You may safely restart a download by initiating a new download for the same Document Library Folder.  Any files previously downloaded will be skipped if the file size and last modified date have not changed.
